Art Behind the Backer Card

Backer cards are the little pieces behind jewelry to help support each piece and make it easy for transport and selling. It's like jewelry's version of packaging. It's an understated piece but if you add a little contrast it makes your jewelry come to life.

​So I took some card stock and starting scribbling and doodling. The black and white was a perfect contrast to my more bohemian style wooden beads, rose gold wire hoops, or white opaque beads. On top of that I played with abstract shapes, cut corners, long pieces, and short pieces. The more contrast between the jewelry and the card the better it looked.

With how things have been going, I've been a little blue and one thing that has been giving me a stroke of hope and sunshine, is giving these little earrings to friends, family,and anyone in my life that needs a little gift to show there is someone out there that cares about them.

When I was in high school, giving was part of my family's DNA. Whether it was on a community level with volunteering or supporting worthwhile causes. But these days giving looks a little different. How do you give when you are equally hurting so much? How can you give a little bit of your heart, when your heart is equally crumbling. Well, you let your heart breath whether it's a good cry, time for yourself, or leaning into someone for help. And then when you are ready, you get up and share that love in a small unexpected way with someone else. In a busy crazy world, the small unexpected gifts of love are always worthwhile. Today I gave a set of earrings to my hairstylist. Her whole career she once knew is uncertain and on the rocks. Her usually bubbly personality, was tired and worn, and she definitely needed a pick me up. You will be surprised these small little gifts will restore faith and hope in yourself and the rest of the world.
