Bead and String

Bead and String Statement Pieces

I always noticed I created jewelry I was proud of when I had limits. Whether it was time to create it, materials, or tools. There is something that happens when you are given less than more to create, draft, and design. So I thought I would walk you through the process of designing within the boundaries of two materials string and one bead. What could you do with just those two things?

Play with String or Thread Thickness How thick or thin do you want your strands to be for your earrings?

Do you want to stick to one thickness or varying thicknesses?

The width of the string or thread you are working with will create dimension and interest when you eventually wear the earrings. So test it out, play with your options and pull the strands close to your ear, to see what looks the best!

Play with the String or Thread Length Next up is the length. With earrings, small studs or long lengthy pieces all have their own unique intrigue.

Do you want to keep it short to have the subtle pop of cute studs?

Do you want to keep them long, so they can flutter as you walk?

Do you want to keep all the strands the same length or vary it?

Play with Texture Next is texture. I know what you are thinking how can I have varying textures with just one string?

Well, this is where I tell you to open your mind, just a little.

Can you braid the strands together? Yes, that's a new texture.

Can you add knots to the strand? Yup, that's a new texture.

Can you weave the strand like a friendship bracelet? Double yes! And there you have it a few textures to play with.

Now Last But Not Least, the Bead You've got one bead to work with. So think where do you want to place it?

At the top to add stability with the string being the main focus?

At the end to add focus to the bead?

Or right in the middle, helping you form a few strands designs into one earring?

And there you have it, a few easy steps to make one bead and handful of string or thread your very own masterpiece set of earrings.
